Dragon Con 2013
Dragon Con was a great experience this year! I was set up in the Art Show and had a great weekend! One part of the Art Show is the charity event. This year’s theme was Better Gnomes and Gardens. I was asked to lend a little zombie love to the event and here is what I came up with:
I also got to present my first panel at Dragon Con. My talk was at 4pm on Saturday with the topic of Anatomy as it applies to Undead and Monsters. When I arrived at my room a few minuets early I saw that it was packed. So I approached the room attendant and told her that I was the Monster Anatomy speaker and asked when the last panel would be letting out. She smiled at me and said, “Honey this is your panel, these people are here to see you!”
I was floored. I’d given talks in public before, but never to this many people. In the past most of my panels had 10-40 people attend. The attendant proceeded to tell me that the room was at capacity for 100 people and that the 45 other people in the hallway would not be able to come in. I found out that the first row had waited over an hour to be there.
Usually I’m not a nervous guy, not even when I have to talk in public. But after seeing the crowd and learning about the wait I got a little nervous. Once I got in and got talking everything went fine. The crowd was great and asked really good questions. We talked about using reference, models, collecting skulls, and using real world creatures to inspire monsters. I had a lot of fun!
Thank you to everyone who came to the panel, and to everyone who stopped by my booth at Dragon Con!
