The Hávamál Project – Day 7, verse 19

Havamal_V19_text_web

It took me many years to grasp the wisdom within this verse. As a younger man I was against drinking and partying. I often wonder how much I missed out on by “Shunning the mead.” Of course we can’t live life in reverse. I’m glad I found the camaraderie that comes with shared drink.

That said the second part of this verse is also important. If you’re too drunk to speak to the point, it’s time to call it a night!
